Early Easter Eggs at the British Relay Championships!

A weekend of Championship Orienteering in the South East

Sun 27 Mar 2022

Three years in the making, the Classic (Long) and Relay Championships were held in forests not previously used for orienteering - a rarity in the south east.

Highlight of the weekend was the podium placing for our Mixed Ad Hoc team - Alison Howe, Sarah Howes and Austin Howe - coming 3rd out of a big field of 39 teams.

Great team selection by Captain Brendon Howe, and forceful runs by all three. As well as their Bronze medals, they were presented with Easter Eggs by Weekend coordinator Andrew Evans.

Our M50 team comprised Alan Hickling (M55), Peter Martin (M70) and Brendon (M50), coming in with a very creditable placing in the top half of a competitive race.

20 Saxons took part in the Individual Championships, on courses that tested navigational skills and needed a good level of fitness and endurance. The M70 course was 6.5km with 305m climb, for instance.

Overall a great weekend, blessed with fine weather.
