Saxons National Event

National level event

Explanation of event levels

Local events are usually low key and in the 'localised' area, ideal for newcomers to try the sport and Training events are non competitive and used for training and coaching, aimed at members of the club, but they can attract people from neighbouring clubs, and are often ideal for newcomers to try the sport. Regional events attract participants from around the local Region, National events are high quality competitions that will attract people from far away, Major events are Major Events such as a British Championships. Virtual events are where there are no physical controls being used. Your presence at a control is registered using an App on your mobile phone, normally the free MapRun App.

Map / Terrain

The estate comprises a number of mixed woodland areas in the north, west and south, with generally runnable parkland in between. The longer courses using the A3 map will visit both the northern and southern woodland and the pastureland between. The shorter courses with the A4 map will generally use just the southern woodland, with some legs on some courses venturing into the grassed areas. The area is unusual for SE England as there are numerous crags and boulders. These will be visited by all courses from Light Green upwards.

The Black, Brown, Short Brown, and Blue courses will use a 1:10,000 scale A3 map, while the other courses will have a 1:7,500 scale A4 map. These will be printed on waterproof paper. Neither map has a legend, though loose legends will be available, if required, at event registration and the start. Control descriptions will be text for the White and Yellow courses, text and pictorial for Orange, and pictorial for all other courses. These will be on the map and available in loose form in the start lanes.
