Parking will be in the road by the Amhurst Inn (formerly the Crown Point) at TN15 0HB W3W:///teach.glove.like
Registration & Start Times
Start between 11-12.30pm. Courses Close at 2.00pm
The start is in the woods on the Oldbury Hill side of Styants Bottom Road, approximately 300m from the parking. Route will be taped and will involve crossing the A25. Juniors must be accompanied. There are 2 finishes. For the yellow, orange and score course the finish is 300m north of the start on Olbury Hill. The finish for green and blue courses is in the western quadrant of the map. Return routes from the Finishes will be taped through the woods back to the Start, then follow Styants Bottom Road to A25 (also taped).
Course Information
There will be 4 colour coded courses:
yellow, 2.1 k
orange, 3.1 k
green, 4.6 k
blue, 5.8 k
plus a 60 min score course
Explanation of colour courses
- White are very easy with all controls on paths. They are mainly used by 6-10 year olds and family groups.
- Yellow use simple linear features like paths, walls and streams. They are mainly used by under 12’s and family groups.
- Orange progress to basic use of the compass and route choice. They are ideal for novice adults or experienced youngsters.
- Light Green are ideal for improvers as the navigational difficulty begins to increase and uses simple contours and point features.
- Green are used mostly by experienced under 18’s and adults wanting a short but challenging course with a very hard navigational difficulty.
- Blue are a longer, more physically demanding course in comparison to the green. The distances are more varied between controls and the course attracts experienced orienteers.
- Brown & Black are very physically demanding and have a very hard navigational difficulty. They are for experienced orienteers only.
- Score means visiting as many controls as possible in any order in a specific time, like 45mins.

Terrain Description
Delightful ancient woodland consisting of oak, birch, rowan & beech. Runnability varies from very good to areas with heather, bracken and bilberry which may impede progress. Oldbury Hill has numerous earth features and earth ramparts built 500-100BC and was one of the finest forts in the Medway region.
