Kent Night Cup

Local level event

Explanation of event levels

Local events are usually low key and in the 'localised' area, ideal for newcomers to try the sport and Training events are non competitive and used for training and coaching, aimed at members of the club, but they can attract people from neighbouring clubs, and are often ideal for newcomers to try the sport. Regional events attract participants from around the local Region, National events are high quality competitions that will attract people from far away, Major events are Major Events such as a British Championships. Virtual events are where there are no physical controls being used. Your presence at a control is registered using an App on your mobile phone, normally the free MapRun App.

Report

We are grateful for Swale BC allowing us to use the Country Park for Round 18 of the Cup. Alex Kendall came closest to visiting all the controls (27/30), just pipping the KNC regulars. The control sequences and routes people took can be seen in the Results in MapRun https://results.maprun.net/#/event_results?eventName=KNC%2018%20Milton%20and%20Kemsley%20PXAS%20ScoreV90%20PZ2020022025.

Planning your route was the principal challenge, as the orienteering is relatively straightforward and the venue is pretty flat. With an A3 map, 3 sets of 10 controls covering the full extent of the area and the limited crossing points of the Creek / flood defence barrier, it was a bit tricky to work out. It was nice to have the warmer weather on the night, even though it was a bit drizzly.

My thanks to Simon for covering the MapRun aspect, and to Graham for liaising with the Ranger for access to the car park.
