SE Night Championships

Regional level event

Explanation of event levels

Local events are usually low key and in the 'localised' area, ideal for newcomers to try the sport and Training events are non competitive and used for training and coaching, aimed at members of the club, but they can attract people from neighbouring clubs, and are often ideal for newcomers to try the sport. Regional events attract participants from around the local Region, National events are high quality competitions that will attract people from far away, Major events are Major Events such as a British Championships. Virtual events are where there are no physical controls being used. Your presence at a control is registered using an App on your mobile phone, normally the free MapRun App.

Overview

Beautiful mixed runnable forest and open land in this historic deer park combine with interesting contour and point features to provide a challenging and enjoyable night-time event. There is a good network of rides and paths to aid navigation.

There are just a couple of restrictions: one small fenced area is Out of Bounds - shown with a purple boundary on the map - and there are some compulsory crossing points on the golf course where competitors must remain briefly on the path.

Safety Notes

Traffic in Knole Park:
There is likely to be little traffic at that time of night, any vehicles should be moving slowly on tarmac tracks only with headlights on, so highly visible from a distance.

Members of the public:
There may be some people running, walking or cycling in the dark (it does happen!) They may have dogs with them. There is no guarantee they will be using torches so participants need to be aware.

Deer:
Knole is an historic deer park with a resident herd dating back centuries.
It is likely there will be large groups of deer resting on the ground around the park, or feeding.
Deer will usually move/run away from humans but there is always the possibility of deer being startled by one runner and running towards another runner.
Participants should be aware of deer both stationary and mobile and be prepared to avoid them.

Ticks & Lyme Disease:
Please see notes to the right about this.

Safety Bearing:
West to the perimeter fence or the main north-south valley then north or south to the finish.

Miscellaneous
