Event Report

Thanks to Sean for an enjoyable event despite the rain. It was good to see some orienteers from further afield and also many newcomers, hope to see some of you again soon.

Apologies to some who had incomplete splits printouts. This problem is now solved and the published results are complete.

Organiser Sean Cronin comments:

"I won't forget that event in a hurry.

Thank you all for coming, and for showing such patience queueing up in the rain. We were not expecting such numbers. The results don't show the total turnout as many of the non club members were running in groups.

The actual turnout was

50 from Orienteering clubs.

88 non club members.

138 total competitors.

All but 7 of the non club members were running in groups.

To the 88, since you've shown the grit to orienteer in January in driving rain, you should have no problem with our other events, one or two per week, which are mostly in forests and therefore more sheltered. Next week we have an event at Ightham - much more sheltered!

There are a few learning points for us to organise a high turnout event in such conditions.

As always, SAXONS club members were great at helping on the day. Thanks to Steve Reith, Alan Hickling, Simon Blanchflower, Graham Denney, Alison Howe, Brendon Howe, Beryl Pring, Roger Pring and Nick Betts. Thanks also to Dave Kingdon for helping with access, Mark Glaisher with map printing, and Maidstone Borough Council for permission to use the area for orienteering."

Some lost property was found:

- One yellow legoland waterproof smock.

- One beige towel.

If yours please contact Sean.

Course Information

Checkpoints ('controls') will be positioned on features in the Park - Seats, fences, paths, depressions etc. These will be marked on the map supplied.

60 minute ‘Score’ format for beginners and improvers – How many can you find in the time available? No worries if you can't locate a control - move on to another one.

60 minute ‘Score’ race for experienced orienteers. An alternative format to give a longer run and some challenging route choice. Penalty 10 points per minute/part-minute beyond 60 minutes

Courses close at 2:30pm

Explanation of Score courses

You don't have to visit all the controls! There is usually a time limit, instead of a set course. Points are scored for visiting controls, and deducted for finishing over the time limit. You decide which controls to visit, and in which sequence. Sometimes controls have different points values. You will need to carry a watch or phone, so you know how long you have been out.

Entry Details

Enter on the day.  Adults £4,  Juniors £1,  Dibber hire £1 (records your time & controls visited)

You can compete in a group or family if you prefer.

Please email the Organiser if you intend coming, so we can estimate roughly how many maps to print.

Some spares will be printed if you forget to email us.
