This session will reinforce some of the training from Hargate but will also be suitable for people who missed that session. There will be something for all levels of ability from novices to experienced orienteers.

Pre Event Info

We will focus on the skills required to improve at orienteering. Skills-wise, this will be a follow on from the Orienteering training session at Hargate and will help adult novices progress, and any older juniors looking to move up to Orange and beyond. A basic understanding of map orientation and thumbing is a pre-requisite. There will also be exercises for the more experienced orienteers. Exercises will be focussed on:


Map Memory

Compass skills

Route Choice

Attack Points

Contour appreciation

There will be coacing guidance on each of these exercises followed by an opportunity to practise any that you feel you need to work on. Some exercise will be done in pairs.

Parking at NT car park in Styants Bottom Road. Nearest postcode is TN15 0ET. Turn north just east of the Crown Point Inn

Registration & Start Times

The session is free and will run for approximately two hours commencing at 10:30am. Please meet up from 10am at the National Trust car park in Styants Bottom Road.

Entry Details

Please bring warm and waterproof clothing with you as there may be some standing around. Snacks, water, hot soup?? might also be an option. 

Grippy shoes, full leg cover and a Compass also necessary. Dibber not required.
