Summer Series

Local level event

Explanation of event levels

Local events are usually low key and in the 'localised' area, ideal for newcomers to try the sport and Training events are non competitive and used for training and coaching, aimed at members of the club, but they can attract people from neighbouring clubs, and are often ideal for newcomers to try the sport. Regional events attract participants from around the local Region, National events are high quality competitions that will attract people from far away, Major events are Major Events such as a British Championships. Virtual events are where there are no physical controls being used. Your presence at a control is registered using an App on your mobile phone, normally the free MapRun App.

Report

It was nice to have a sunny day and a good turnout for this summer series event, and our thanks go to Kent Country Parks for allowing us to use Trosley CP.

The Long course was planned so that it would be quite tricky to get the maximum points. Brendon was the only person to 'beat the Planner' and score 220 - Well done.

The Short course was particularly popular, perhaps because of the warm conditions and hilly terrain. It gave many people the chance to visit all 20 controls.

A few people commented on the variety of goats in the field. I did have a concern about control 90 but fortunately the goats were just curious, rather than tampering with it. Many thanks to the helpers and control collectors - with everyone back by 1pm we were able to clear the site quite early in the afternoon, & visit the cafe,

Our final Summer Series event is at Betteshanger CP on 21st September. This is followed a couple of weeks later by the first round of the SAX & DFOK Kent Orienteering League 2024/25 - as usual, these events are open to all.

In addition, you will probably have noticed (on the back of the map!) that there is a taster for the forthcoming Kent Night Cup series at Trosley on 10th October.
