The standard format is a 60 minute Night Score Orienteering Event with a mass start at 7.30pm, held weekly on Thursday evenings at a variety of venues throughout Kent and adjacent areas of East Sussex, Surrey, and Greater London. There is a mix of forest and street events. Typically, there is an opportunity for socialising with food and drink afterwards at a nearby pub (often referred to as Apres-O), when there will also be the declaration of the results and some (novelty) prizegiving for competitors. For those taking part individually, KNC points are awarded, and these points count towards the KNC League. Suitable for all abilities, newcomers are welcome, taking part as a pair or group if you wish. Minimum equipment is a torch (& back up light), a watch and SI dibber (dibbers can be borrowed on the night).
Please note: Safety considerations and British Orienteering insurance limitations mean that Juniors must be 16+ to compete individually in the Street events.
Please check the Saxons website a few days before the event in case of late amendments e.g. due to poor weather.
Use of MapRun at Urban KNC Events
In order to simplify the organisers effort at Urban events we are using MapRun instead of traditional SI controls. In order to avoid any timing penalty issues that may arise due to MapRun not registering your finish, and for competitor safety reasons, we will supplement MapRun with SI at the Start and Finish only. KNC League: Rules in the event of a tie
The Nick Hope Cup
This is presented to the person who attends the greatest number of KNC events in the season.
It reflects the approach that former Saxons OC Chairman Nick Hope had: the determination to compete at KNC events.
If this is someone who isn’t normally amongst the leaders, it is particularly appropriate - showing a ‘commitment through adversity’.
If there is a tie, the recipient is determined in the following way:-
A category prizewinner (eg Women winner, Vet Man winner) is discounted.
If there is still a tie, it is presented to the person with the lowest placing in the League.
