Coast and Island Orienteering 2023
Six intrepid Saxons headed to the Outer Hebrides for a week of orienteering based around Tarbert on the Isle of Harris.
The Cronin and the Howe families made the long trek up North to take part in only the third Coast and Island Orienteering week. Most of the events were centred around Tarbert and featured more rocks, crags and marshy hillside than one could possibly want! The final sprint day was held in Stornaway in the grounds of Lews Castle.
Due to issues with parking and accommodation the entry to Coast and Island is kept to 220. This meant for a relaxed, local event feel and plenty of flexibility on start times. We even walked to the start of one event!
Only four courses were available: Long, Medium, Short and Orange. The first three were certainly TD5 and were a technical challenge even for the best of us.
