Saxons Success at the Southern Championships

Published: Mon 6 Nov 2023

The November Classic in the New Forest is one of the highlights of the season for the Southern clubs, and this year was also the venue for the Southern Championships.

After several weeks of storms and heavy rain, conditions underfoot were somewhat wet, but fortunately the sun came out on Sunday and conditions were calm and mild. Seventeen Saxons had made the trip, combining with the Winchester Urban on the Saturday, and there was plenty of success to celebrate.

Mark Glaisher and Perter Martin stormed the M70L category coming 1st and 2nd.

Jeremy Oldershaw took his usual spot on the top of the podium in M85, although had to make do with a woolly hat prize since there were no trophies for the M85 category. (Booooo. A matter to be taken up with Southern Regional Orienteering Organisations).

Alison Howe 1st W50L - super chuffed to be sharing the podium with her sister (Devon).

Brendon Howe 2nd M50L - as you can tell he was rather pleased!

Beryl Pring 3rd W75L - a well deserved podium.

Well done to all who participated - all set now for the CompassSport Trophy Final next weekend in the Forest of Dean.
