A super team turnout of 35 souls ensured a good showing at this year's Compass Sport Cup Heat held at Esher Common on Sunday 18th Feb. Saxons beat off strong competition from MV, SOC and BKO to take the win by a massive 21 points.

Our super score was aided by a great showing from our juniors who delivered a maximum four of our thirteen best scores. A few brave runners were persuaded to 'run up' for the benefit of the team score sheet and this paid dividends with Dave Pickup scoring a creditable 92 points on Brown, and Sean and Alan securing good scores on the Blue. A nod also to Cate who picked up her first ever qualifying points at CSC in course 5.

Despite the promise of damp weather, the clouds remained a lighter colour and the rain stayed away. The heavy overnight rain did mean the course was a little boggy in places however and most people came back wearing some of the terrain. Despite some dull planning for the shorter courses - flat, boggy, brambly, limited route choice - everyone seemed in good spirits on crossing the finish line. This may have had something to do with the abundance of cakes and biscuits on offer at the Saxons mobile HQ. Thanks to everyone who brought something to share.

My spies tell me that the final will be hosted by Pendle Forest Orienteers at Holcombe Hill nr Preston on Sunday 20th October. Get the date in your diary now!
