Hemsted Forest

Location/Parking:
Hemsted Forest, Carpark at TQ811344.
South of Staplehurst and the A262, just north of Benenden
From
A262 in Sissinghurst turn south onto un-numbered road. In approx 3 km turn
left (signed), car park on left 0.5 km. If travelling from south, from A2086
west of Bendenden turn north onto un-numbered road, in approx 1 km turn right
(signed), car park on left in 0.5 km.
Public
transport: Nearest is Headcorn station.
Contact organiser to arrange pick up or cycle from there, or if you need a lift
from somewhere else, we may also be able to help! We promote Green Travel!
Area/Map: 1:10,000. 5m contours. Simon Beck map, revised 2008.
Pre-marked. Area is varied: gently undulating, runnable sylvan landscape of great
charm, meandering stream, and some undeniably rather slow forest blocks (out of
which we shall aim to keep you).
Times: Registration 1900 to 1915. Mass start 1930
prompt. Controls will start to be collected from 2035 (volunteers needed!).
It may be possible to start earlier – please mail.
Equipment: SPORT IDENT Dibbers - borrow if you don’t have
one (25gbp fee for loss). Bring a map bag (especially if raining), compass,
whistle highly advised. Some form of (Head)torch and spare/back up.
Watch/clock/timing device that counts to 60 minutes. Pictorial descriptions on

Cost: £1 to cover cost of maps
Courses: 60 minute Score. 1pt a control. 1pt deducted for
every minute or part minute you are back late over 60:00. Don’t be back
late! Take controls in any order. If you are completely new to Night O and
would like help, make yourself known, ideally in advance, to the organiser.
Help, friendly advice, etc. given on the night – just ask.
All
fields are out of bounds.
Prizes: A select few – of grandeur to reflect entry fee
– at the pub afterwards after all the controls are in – likely to
be the late side of 2115.

Après-O: The grand prize
giving and presentation of cups for the KNC winners 08/09 season will be at the
King William IV Inn, Benenden, Kent, TN17 4DJ, Tel: 01580 240636 (right out of
the car park, left onto the un-numbered road, left onto the B2086 into
Benenden, and it is the first of the two pubs, on the right. Award winning
food and friendly landlord. We will be using the left-hand side as you go in
through the front door. Food will need pre-ordering before the start. See menu
at Registration. Prices are approx £10: Game Pie, Cottage Pie, Steak and Kidney
Pie (all £9.45); lasagne, chicken and stilton, goats cheese and spinach
tartlets, homemade chilli with rice and garlic bread, sausage & mash
(prices to be confirmed); omelettes are £6.95 (plain, cheese, ham, bacon, liver
& bacon). All served with veg, potatoes/chips.

with a short report as soon after the event as possible.
