Saxons at the Sunny Sussex weekend

Mon 23 May 2022

Southdowns' Events Jamboree: 3 events over a nice and sunny (as it says on the tin!) weekend

This SO promotion drew orienteers from as far away as Scotland, attracted by the nice variety of Middle Distance - Abbots Wood, Short Urban (in the evening) - Eastbourne & Marina and National Long Distance at Friston Forest.

The Abbots Wood event was also the South East Middle Distance Championships and the course planning for this was really well done. Everybody seemed to make mistakes and it was a question of pushing on and minimising the damage. Winners for Saxons were Sarah Howes (W55-60) & Jeremy Oldershaw (M80+).

16 Saxons took part at Friston Forest. The shorter courses in particular made the most of the very nicest parts of the Forest. Good visibility and little debris on the forest floor made for some fast times.

The results for the daytime events were combined and three Saxons were awarded jars of jam: Sarah 2nd W55-60, Jeremy 2nd M80+ and Mark Glaisher 2nd M65-70.

Well Done SO hosting a great weekend's competitions.
