Saxons in the Lake District
The Lakes 5 took place 7-12 August - 5 days of orienteering competition across the Lake District. A happy band of Saxons had made the trip, keen to take on the contours, the open fells and the complex crags. The weather was taking a break from the normal, and waterproofs stayed firmly at the bottom of the bag - the biggest problem was keeping cool which often entailed a post race dip in the nearest lake, water or tarn.

The Orienteering proved physical and challenging as always, but nevertheless, the Southern Clubs were well represented on the final day at the prize giving including Saxons with Holly Howe coming second in W12B, Ben Cronin coming 1st in M16B, Ffion Bricknell coming first in W18S, and Alison Howe coming 3rd in W50L.
Making the most of the Lakes, Saxons were seen scaling the tree tops at Go Ape, mountain biking, hiking, lake swmining and of course sampling the local fish and chips in Ambleside Rothay Park where we also caught up with Jerry, Rowan and Jonathan Purkis. And as celebrating Jeremy Oldershaws birthday! Happy Birthday!
A special mention to Babara Castle and George Ransley taking on a multi day event for the first time! Quite a big difference from leafy Kent, but both were taking it in their stride by the final day. Well done!
